Dave Winer tries not to buy into the Pig Pile of noise around Silicon Valley or Journalism or politics. Slicon Valley is all about feeding at the trough and next-to-nothing about the idealism that many of us felt about the technology. The pigs always push aside the idealists, because they're willing to do the things the others won't do. And like the Republicans in Washington, unfortunately, that's a winning strategy, at least short term. I tried to solve the problem by leaving Silicon Valley, and writing software I believe in, and doing the best I can. For me it's never been primarily about money. I like money, up to a point -- but I'm really in it for the wonderful things you can do with the tech. It's an end in itself, not a means to an end. Kara does the best she can to deal with the trough-feeding-frenzy, but she must have to do a fair amount of it to be competitive in the business she's in. (more)

The effects of social influence can be seen in the tendency of large groups to conform to choices which may be either correct or mistaken, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as herd behavior. Although social proof reflects a rational motive to take into account the information possessed by others, formal analysis shows that it can cause people to converge too quickly upon a single choice, so that decisions of even large groups of individuals may be grounded in very little information. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_proof

Sacha Chua on how she uses a Mole Skin NoteBook for daily notes. I try to do this with my Sharp Zaurus Private Wiki, but it's definitely a pain. On the other hand, I can't read my own HandWriting, esp if I'm doing it in little notebooks.

*In the United States and Canada, a townhouse has two connotations.[citation needed] The older predates the automobile and denotes a house on a small footprint[clarification needed] in a city (Urban), but due to having multiple floors (sometimes six or more) it has a large living space, often with servant's quarters. It is a two or three floor single-family residence. The small footprint of the townhouse allows it to be within walking or mass transit distance of business and industrial areas of the city, yet luxurious enough for wealthy residents of the city. In areas so densely built that detached Single Family Home-s are uncommon or almost nonexistent, ownership of a townhouse connotes wealth. Some examples of cities where townhouses are occupied almost exclusively by the wealthy are New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, and San Francisco. (more)
